some mistake by Ivona Bozik
Once you accidentally killed a fly
believing it was a mosquito
and your face got sad
with one of those frowns
gestures that made my love take roots
deep far in the dark of me
Like in the moments your whole body twitched
and released a gasp
because of an unexpected movie scene
or an irregular noise outside
your look of suspicion
Like in those your arm your hand
warned me about an approaching car or tram
and both of our steps suddenly simultaneously stopped
Like every time all your strict nature
harshness and cynicism
hatred even
ran down to its source
and all I could see
was empathy
kindness respect
(disillusioned)
someone who generously held space
So now looking at clouds
neatly packed right above the last roof I can see
giving impression of alpine peaks in rosy snow
I wonder
Did you mistake me for a vampire too?
“I doubted this piece a lot, because I usually don't write in English and even more rarely write poetry. These words just burst out one time when I was reminiscing while cooking lunch, so they seemed too direct, personal and random to become an actual poem. As often, the thoughts insisted till I wrote them down. And then, I forgot about them for some time, but I don't know... for me, there is still something touching about them. The way we can love people, not despite but because of who they are, and how some moments just make that love grow, even when we already know it's not reciprocal.”
