Unsee by Mona Mehas

TW* police violence, racism, George Floyd murder and the D. Chauvin trial

Knee on neck

Nine and a half minutes

Three others watch.

Young woman with phone

We can’t unsee

His face all over

People in streets

Election, sedition

Eleven months pass.

Eyes of a man

Over mask, he listens

While his fate is read.

Three others wait

Wishing they could

Unsee.

“I wrote this poem while watching the trial as I describe. I was taken by the fear and hatred in his eyes. It was such a timely poem I couldn't find a place to publish it then it became dated.”
