Once the water is in the pot and no spillage has occurred, just let the damn dogs cook - that's the whole point. This keeps you from turning on the stove and boiling water on the stove - forgetting the burner while you play WordStacks® on your Samsung® phone and possibly burning the wall to the left of the back of the stove like that time last spring when the tall blonde fireman tripped over the lawn sprinkler (not the time before, but that precise time).
