Dorothy Lune
How would you describe your writing practice?
When I was writing poems regularly I would wake up at 5am to write them, & go back to sleep. It would help me not overthink the process & let the subconscious/emotional side of me be more apparent.
What is the biggest thing that stops you from submitting work to lit mags/journals/publications?
Honestly— just reading fees usually, or longer average waiting periods.
When do you start to doubt a piece that you are working on?
Right after writing it, all it needs is a little revision so I can go back to sleep in peace.
Once you trash one of your pieces, what makes you come back to it (if ever)?
Time, I've gone back to many older poems & realised I liked them. My attitudes & believes of art have a prominent effect on this.
What is the ultimate reason that you trash your work?
If I deem it unnecessary.
What writing advice have you been given that has changed your perspective on how you treat/view your work?
Sticking to aesthetic sincerity, keeping the word pretentious & a fear of being it, out of my personal vocabulary & thoughts.
If you have any upcoming work (books, publications, features, art, etc), feel free to mention them here, so that we can support you!
I'll be published in en*gendered lit soon, looking forward to that.
